Battle & Exploration: UI Improvement

I’m currently in the thick of implementing the battle and exploration gameplay. Admittedly, it is taking a great deal of time. I knew this would be the case but it is taking time I wish it wouldn’t take. I want to get through all this faster. I can only hope my pace will increase as I get into the groove.

I am about a 3rd of the way into the 2nd year. I spent half of the week improving the battle UI before I started working on the gameplay again. As you can see in the screenshot above, I specifically improved the presentation and backend of the Battle Objectives.

Before I made this change, I was manually entering the “Goal” and “Reward” text for each battle. I did not want to continue doing this, especially knowing this process could be more automated. So that’s what I did. Now all I have to do is decide which “Goal” I want for the battle and then the Rewards are automatically filled in.

Sprinkle some GUI improvements, add some icons, increase the text size to fill up the empty space and now you have a nice looking Battle UI.

Compared to what it was before, I am fairly satisfied with the change.

This is another test battle for some mini bosses you will face during the second year. The player characters are using equipment from the 3rd year so this isn’t a proper representation of how this battle will go down during the real game.

I will keep improving things as I go along but my main goal is to get through all these years of battle and exploration. There’s so much content I still need to get through.
