Wow, what a week! I’ve been working extra hard this past week with one goal in mind. Completing all the maps. I didn’t believe it would be possible. I thought it would take me at least 2 weeks to get through 7 maps, but I proved myself wrong. I did it. I did it folks, I completed all 7 post game maps. I have no more maps to complete. Over 60 maps were created in the span of several months. It was a long, grueling process, but it’s finally over. I don’t have to make anymore maps. I’m so happy. 😭
The map you see above is the final map of the post game. Here is a video presented with no context.
Check out the cool shaders I used! It’s a mix of the particle effects from the cave and the dynamic cloud shader. I was going for a dream like appearance as you move through the map. The best thing about all this is it hardly impacts the player’s PC. Man do I love shaders. As far as the map itself, you’re just going to have to wait and see for the final game release. 😊
Now that I’m finally, officially, done with the maps, I can begin on reaching 80% completion. As mentioned in the previous update, to be 80% complete will require the game to have everything I originally planned in it and be playable from start to finish. (no game stopping bugs)
I still need to connect the post-game maps to the game world, but there are other features of the game I need to work on before then. But before I work on those features I need to complete the daughter raising ending routes. Essentially, the work I will be doing from this point on will be disorganized.
There are a great number of things that need to be done but they are spread all across the game. My two biggest hurdles going forward will be creating new dialogue (which will be a lot but I will try to keep it minimal) and establishing planned mechanics. (namely the Coliseum) The dialogue that needs to be done are related to the post game events(there are several of them, including the post-game maps), the holidays (all 7 years) and item related events (this is very low priority). For the mechanics, the main one is related to the coliseum, which is just custom battles to give the player a challenge outside of the maps. There are also dialogue events related to that, especially post game.
Besides that, I have additional mechanics I would like to add but it will have to wait until I reach 80% completion. Time is not my friend at the moment. I need to focus on everything I originally planned for this game.
Testing will be an interesting process. I’m 100% certain I fucked up somewhere in those 60+ maps or those 7 years worth of dialogue. For the time being I will keep working behind the scenes. If I notice a problem in my sporadic game testing I will correct it, but the actual game testing will come last. (that’s the 90% completion point) Sooner or later I will need game testers. I’ll probably use steam to do that. If you’re reading this and are interested please be on the look out for that notification in the coming months.
Next week I will release a video celebrating my completion of the battle and exploration portion of the game making process. Once I get a better grasp of what I have left to do I can get a real idea of when I will be complete with this game. Just know it will be done this year. That I am 100% certain on, now more than ever!
I’ll talk to you guys in the next update. (a major one!) Stay well, everyone!
