Here we are again for another week of updates. Let’s get right to it. Below is my current date in the game. I have about 47 hours of game play so far.
Things are definitely moving slower now. This is mostly due to larger maps, but also due to various small and unexpected hiccups. I’m actually running into fewer and fewer game stopping bugs, some maps have even been 100% perfect the first time through. But sadly, a noticeable amount of bugs have been popping up that only became apparent after XX amount of hours playing.
Constantly fixing those bugs have been one hell of an time sink.
There’s been this crazy annoying bug during battles that sporadically prevents my character from moving to specific spots on the battlefield. This bug has existed for as long as I can remember, but it wasn’t until recently (as in, me writing this update “recently”) where I believe I’ve finally fount the solution. Only time will tell if I’ve truly fixed the issue, but I feel confident in my solution.
Another issue that’s been plaguing me is the load time. The game took a good minute to load each time I started up and closed the game while I work on it in the editor. Also, when I build the game and tested it, it took me 30 seconds to start the game and get a save loaded.
After doing some research, I realized I should have organized the game better than I did. Sadly, it’s too late to make any drastic changes, but what I have done is moved the start menu into it’s own scene.
This one change has drastically improved both the game loading inside the editor and in the build. Now, the game starts and closes in 5 seconds in the editor. As for the build, you should reach the main menu right away. After that, you only need to wait for the game to load once and everything should run smoothly. Sadly, I’ve only tested it on my beefy PC. I really need to see how it runs on low to mid size PCs.
In the past few updates I expressed my concerns about the difficulty level of this game. I felt things might have been too easy so I’ve made changes to the stats of enemies as a result of those concerns.
Perhaps I might have been too hasty? The game’s difficulty is no longer in question. After reaching a mid point and facing against enemies with a lot more mechanics, I now know this game can become quite difficult. Observe the video below as I struggle against a random boss like enemy.
I’ve made so many small to medium changes since I first started testing this game, but I’m still only halfway through it. Hopefully, I won’t need to make any additional “fixes” that will take more of my time. I just wish to continue to play through the game mostly uninterrupted.
That’s all I have for this week. Stay well, folks!
