Above you can watch the speed painting of Yhin. Below is a step by step guide of the making. A big thanks to Nakatokung for providing all these resources. Enjoy!
1st Step – Sketch out the rough draft. Place an emphasis in drawing clear proportions and clean sketch lines for drawing your linearts. In this example, I use “Colored Pencil” to draw out my lineart.
2nd Step – Draw out your lineart. The “Colored Pencil” tool was used in this step as well.
In my method of coloring, I use three main steps which are; Use “Air Brush” to color in skin colors. Use “Mechanic Pencil” for shading (I personally use at minimum, 3 layers of shading) Use “Soft Eraser” for finishing touches.
4th Step – Firstly, I use “Air Brush” on “Soft” to color in the parts where the skin is.
5th Step – Follow up the previous step by using “Mechanic Pencil” for primary shading and “Soft Eraser” to soften the edge of the shading.
8th Step - For hair coloring, my method involves the same shading and highlight process as skin coloring. In this particular project, I used “Air Brush” to color in the hair.
9th Step – Finish shading. In this step, there will usually be 2 – 3 layers of shading. Feel free to change the values until you are satisfied the color level. After you are done, remember to add “Highlight” to the hair in the middle area of the head. When you are finished, you will be done with the basic hair coloring steps.
10th Step – decorate the lighting on the head by using “Layer Multiply” to add shadows to create depths unto the picture. Follow up by creating “Highlight” by creating a “Glow Dodge” layer and “Air Brush” around the area of the wanted “Highlight” area. Finish up by applying lighting around the area of the face and change it to an “Overlay” layer.
11th step – For eye coloring, use “Air Brush” to darken the upper area of the eyes. Add finishing touched to the eyes by applying “Multiply” to layers to add shading and applying “Glow Dodge” to increase the brightness of the eyes.
12th Step – For coloring clothing, I apply multiply to every clothing colors layers. I do this so that the color will naturally blend in with the shading, which will make easier to control the values of lightings in the picture.
13th Step – Materials are colored with the same processes as above. After which, create a “Screen” layer and use a light-blue “Air Brush” on the materials to create depth.
14th Step – Decorate the composition as you see fit and create a “Screen” layer and “Air Brush” around areas such as the hair at the back of the head or the back part of a skirt to create additional sense of depth to the picture.
When you are done with the picture, create an additional special layer called “Level” to manipulate the lightings of the whole picture. Change values as you see fit but take care not to change it too much that it changes the original colors of the picture.
Congratulation, with this, you have finished with your picture!
