Social Habitual Behaviors

I usually only work 3 days out of a week. These 3 days mainly consisting of the weekends. I’ve been neglected over mentioning exactly what I do simply because………well………it’s lame. How lame, as you may ponder in mild excitement. Well, my job is to simply return grocery carts back into the store.

That’s right, I’m a cart attendant.

Yes, the job that barely stands above working at a fast food joint flipping burgers. But don’t get me wrong, I am able to “upgrade” from C.A. to a floor attendant at any time. Although, if I were to do so, there is a good chance I’ll work more hours and lose all my free time which I like to reserve for school, art, etc.

So, the job isn’t all bad.(lots of sun, exercise,……..sun) I’ve been doing this job for a few months now, bringing the carts in as they go out. Again and again, week after week, same ole thing. Slowly, over time, I began to notice patterns. One person would do one thing, then the next person much later in the day would do it again.

At first I didn’t think much of it, but after a while it really started to urk at me. Finally I decided to pay closer attention to these social behaviors share by all of these people. The more I watched, the more surprised I became.(and angry!!!) Here are some examples of what I noticed.

Nobody, I mean NOBODY ever knows that the store closes at 9pm on sunday. I am completely convinced that no one will ever use their common senses to read the front door, look around the parking lot at all the other closing grocery stores, and come to a rational conclusion that maybe, just maybe the store closes early today. I am convinced!!! NOBODY!!!!!!

So I work damn near 8 hours during saturday and sunday.(god, I’m seriously trying to get that changed) And I’ve noticed, not at ANY particular time, there is a rush. This rush of people come into the store, take ALL the carts and leave about a hour later. This doesn’t sound usually if you’re looking at it from a customer or bystander perspective. But from a cart attendant perspective, this shit is enraging! These rush of people take and use carts for the most unnecessary set of reasons. I’ve noticed people using cart to put there 7-8 year olds in. I’ve noticed people using them for a single bag, heck I’ve noticed people only using it so they don’t have to carry their purse! (grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr *explodes*)

After taking the cart to their car and removing all the bags, a lot of the time people will just leave the cart off to the side. COMPLETELY ignoring the cart rails we have well placed so carts won’t get in the way of moving cars. More than often these same people will clear out their carts and allow it to roll into someone elses car. HOLY SHIT! Can people really be that lazy and inconsiderate? I’ve noticed this happen with the person still present at the scene as well.

No one will never know where the restroom is…………EVER.

No one will never realize that the thing they are looking for is right in front of them.(I’ve been a victim of this myself)

People will leave ANYTHING in carts. I mean ANYTHING. Food, drugs, cds, pampers, money, dag nabit I’ve seen it all.

No one bothers to straighten up the carts they’ve tinkered with after coming into store.(resulting in a mess of cart traffic) I’ve noticed younger kids attempting to do so, which made me happy. But every single time their parents would tell them to stop. It’s really shocking actually.

If one person leaves a cart in the middle of the path between the registers and the exit on their way out, everybody else, for some ungodly reason, feels compelled to leave their cart as well. Resulting in the traffic jam, further resulting in complaining.

The most amazing thing about all these shared habits is, no one realizes it. The individual persons believes it’s just something he/she does, thus they never think more of it. Now, don’t get me wrong. These social habits only refer to about 98.27% of the people that come into the store. The rest notice these habits themselves and put an effort not to repeat them.(thank god for these people!!!!!!!)

So in conclusion, if you’re one of these people, F$&K YOU!!!!(jk, jk!!)
