Michiko e Hatchin is a very interesting and unique anime that I think isn’t getting enough exposure. I fount out about this anime about 14 episodes into myself. I was very surprised to see how good it was but not talked about very much.(as far as I can tell) Here is a summery from wiki:
The story takes place in a fictional country with cultural traces from Latin American countries, mostly from Brazil. The title’s Michiko is a free-willed “sexy diva” who escapes from a supposedly inescapable prison fortress, while Hatchin is a girl fleeing her abusive foster family. The two join forces on an improbable escape to freedom.
Here is the intro video, it kinda gave me a Cowboy Bebop feel.(even though I hate to use that show as an example)
Watch it, enjoy and your welcome!

I’m interested in this anime, since its talking about my fellow country. Seeing the trailer, it kinda reminisces the 1970 and 1980 decades in Brazil, mainly because of the fuscas (beetles) and the buildings that appear in it.
I don’t like this conception that a lot of people have when referring to Latin America, with its dancing, joyful and promiscuous people. It kinda creates a stereotype that is not true, however, I don’t know if this is the case, so I’ve gotta watch!!
Hehe, glade your interested. Just keep in mind, the japanese seem to be the kings of stereotyping.(just look at most of the black people in anime)

Yeah, but when talking about brazilians, the japanese are more cautious (with the exception of Blanka :P), since they have a lot more contact with brazilian people compared to the rest of America, because of the japanese immigration to Brazil and the recent brazilian immigration to Japan.

Ah, wasn’t aware of that. There should most defiantly be more anime with a brazilian theme.
Yeah, but there’re lots of references to Brazil in some animes. Mainly those regarding football (or soccer if you’re american XD), like Captain Tsubasa. One of the characters in Street Fighter III – Sean – is a brazilian of japanese descent, the developers said that it was a tribute to the japanese immigration in Brazil.
You should give a look at the Liberdade neighbourhood in São Paulo, its like Chinatown in New York, but it would be best to call it Japantown. :P
ps.: I forgot to mention, I’m myself a 100% japanese descendent. Alexandre Toshio, pretty strange for a name huh? XD
Alexandre Toshio, huh.
How do you pronounce Alexandre?
“Ale” is pronouced like the “Alle” particle from “Alley”, “Xan” is like the “Chan” used in japanese, and “Dre”, its pronounced in the same way as the american one, with an emphasis on the “r” sound.
I made a mistake. Actually, the “xan” is more like the “sham” from “shampoo”, with a “sh” sound instead of the “tch” found in “chan”.
I think I got it, but knowing me I probably got it wrong anyways. :P
