The Internet: My Double Edged Blade

I originally intended for this to be a very speedy sketch with no major details or the likes. Well that didn’t happen at all and I ended up putting some work into it. But it still gos into the junk section, another glorified sketch it is.(image completed in photoshop with my tablet)

So ever since my parents so kindly allowed me to join the every growing community of web suffers I’ve been a outstanding loyal member. Perhaps, too loyal? The internet provides a wealth of information and entertainment to those who seek it. Over the years I’ve grown to be inseparable from this web of networks. Yes, I am admitting my addiction to the internet. When I’m not with friends, family, work or school, I’m interneting. I’ll either be searching for new information about up coming games or looking up whats new with anime. Mix in some random searches about paranormal or global news and you got my current life situation in a nut shell.

Now this addiction isn’t a complete loss for me. Thanks to the internet I am able to display my art to anyone at any time from all over the world. This reason alone is more than enough incentive for me to keep drawing. You guys don’t know how much your attention affects my inspiration.

Now the reason this post is titled “My Double Edged Blade” is because the internet is my weapon for exposure and inspiration but at the same time my biggest source of distraction. I’ve come to realize this based off previous experiences where I was left with no internet and a single thought comes to my head. “I should draw.” This has happened almost every time.(As a matter of fact, it’s the reason why the last drawing was done)

I’m not entirely sure how to over come this. Simply going out doesn’t have the same effect on me as loss of internet. The closes feeling I get to it is when I’m at work or at school. The unfortunate exception is that work tires me to a point of no drive to accomplish anything and school trumps all other priorities.

I remember back in the fall of 2008 when I wasn’t working and surviving purely off government college money. Thanks to all the free time (which was mostly occupied by web surfing) I was able to get plenty done. Heck, I even completed another game.(although earlier in the year) It would be nice to go back to those days. I could actually create something with merit. Something worth selling. Something that could allow me to live without slaving away at these shitty hourly jobs.(you can tell how much I hate my current job can’t you? lol)

Ultimately, I feel I will reach this point. I have to, I’ve been doing this for to long to just let everything go to waste. I have to change this double edge blade of mines into a single, godly, fortified, hattori hanzo masamune. The question is, will it be used for good(my exposure via my artwork) or bad(pure entertainment and life wasting)

Only time will tell.

A Glorified Sketch

So this started out as a simple sketch using my tablet in photoshop. The sketch was going so well that I figure I should color it. Everything was fine until I decided to use it for one of my many experiments. This was a rather ambitious experiment as well. Bah! It’s going in junk section! On to the next drawing!

A-Kon 20: The Experience Money Can’t Buy

So as I mentioned in my previous post, I didn’t have a lot of money to spend at this A-kon.(despite receiving extra funds from relatives) Because of this I only bought a single art book, but not just any ole art book. This is the art of INO. A very famous anime artist.

I won’t post more than this because his work is more of the adult kind which shows VERY clearly throughout the book. If you plan to look more into his work, you now have been warned!!

Here is a speical shout out to Nobody for amazingly finding me throughout all the rabit fandom at A-kon.

Since I didn’t spend 90% of my time looking for things to buy like my past A-kon’s, I was free to try things I always ignored for one reason or another. Specifically the conferences that are held throughout the weekend. These conferences are used for a variety of gatherings ranging from chatting with celebrities to discussing tools and trades of the industry.(yes, the “industry” as a whole XD) The first conference I went to was called “Being a Professional”. This conference included Tony Salvaggio, Brian Denham, and Paul Benjamin whom gave their life story’s about how they struggle to get to the positions they were in while answering questions at the same time. They explained how being humble, friendly and remember-able is key when meeting and making connections in the industry. I enjoyed this conference but not as much as the next one.

The second conference I attended was called “Dealing with Publishers” which was hosted by Camilla d’Errico. She is a very successfully artist and a fun person to be around.(cute as well!(opps, I forgot she knows how to get here(oh well, hello Camilla ^^)))
Her conference consisted of experiences she gathered from dealing with publisher contracts and not getting screwed over. She also answered a few questions including my own. I learned a lot and plan to use this experience in my future work.

The third conference I attended was called “Reinventing Rockety” with John Carmack. That’s right, the lead programmer for Doom, Quake, and Wolfenstein. THAT John Carmack!(Image Here!!) He currently works in new methods of rocky propulsion which was what the conference was about. It was a very informal meeting and worth looking into if your concerned about the future of space travel.

The last conference I attended was called “The Misfits of Comedy”. It was a “Who’s Line is it Anyway” type of stand up comedy with 5 panelists. A very fun gathering since the crowd was able to participate as well. I wasn’t able to attend more because of timing and the days I attended A-kon. (only Friday and Saturday)

But enough with the crap about me, you want to see the ~~sexy women~~ cosplayers! This year was a very pleasant surprise. Not only did people get more original with their cosplays, but there was a lot of well done outfits. Here is a list of 12 of my personal favorite images in no particular order. The reason it’s 12 and not 10 like last year is because I had a lot of good ones to pick from and decided these 12 needed to be shown. The rest of the images can be seen in the link at the end of the post.

This image came out very nice, natural light is indeed the best!

This image was mainly taken because of the cuteness right in the middle. I actually took 2 of these and the cuteness in the middle was looking at me in both.^^

The Big Informative Update

So it has been a very long time since I updated. Which in reality it’s been a very long time since I did anything art related. The reason is a mix of things. My job had me working more days out of the week for some reason, I cough a cold somehow (and still have it somewhat) and I’ve been trying to get things done school related.(which is going so so atm) Well, lets get straight to it. I have some pretty important things to talk about here, well, actually, just one or two things, and they actually aren’t THAT important but bare with me.

Now, about this school related stuff. So at some point at the end of the 09 spring semester I began to feel I was wasting my time taking core classes at my community college. Rather, I felt the classes I were taking had so little to do with what I really want to do in life. Like taking a simple drawing class that didn’t really teach me anything new since it’s aimed at beginners and people who just want to get their art credits out of the way. This really started to bother me, so I sat down and thought about what I should do from this point on. Ultimately I came to the conclusion that I needed to move to a higher school of education.

Nothing is in stone as of yet but it is possible that I may be going to a 4 year college in the fall. The college in question is The University of North Texas(UNT). It’s a pretty nice school, and they have really interesting majors.(not that I care about anything else much but art)

The reason why this is so important is because it would be very expensive to drive from my house to and back from the college everyday. So getting a dorm room doesn’t sound like a bad idea. Just did decision alone would change my current life situation into disarray.

But bah, lets leave it until I actually know if I will be going for sure or not. TOMORROW starts A-Kon weekend, YAAaaaaAAAaaaaAAaaay.^^

I will be there checking out the sights and taking pictures of ~~women~~ cosplayers. I can’t guarantee video but I can get you lots of images just as last year. Oh and sad to say, I am crazy broke this year. The max spending limit I have is like 40 bucks.

*sigh*

Oh well, I’ll end this with a sorry for the lack of updates and a sorry for anyone whom I promised a drawing too. I’ll be back sunday or so with images from the convention.

The internet works for me?

It’s always fun to yahoo/google search “Allugic” and see what pops up that may or may not have been resulted in my actions. For example, Allugic’s Pong seem to be poping up on random download websites I have never heard of before. How is this possible if I only uploaded it to download.com? But don’t get me wrong, I love the free publicity, and the game is 100% free so as long as someone doesn’t crack it and change it, or steal the design more than 70% and call it their own. I’m fine with it other wise. Here is a review of the game made by 10001downloads.com whom seem to really enjoy the game as if I reinvented pong for the 21st century.

Aullugic´s Pong is a free anime-style arcade game that`s well done. The quality is great, so are the graphics and the playability. The game consists of using the arrows to control the table tennis bat. You have to hit the ball at the correct angle to defeat your opponent. The first to five points wins. If you win, your rivals have to undress, if you lose you have to.

Aullugic´s Pong includes five attractive girls (animated) for you to play against. Have a good time with this fun game with a comic look. However, it`s only for over-18s.

Hehe, this is most defiantly the best rewards for creating freeware. So nice to find good appreciation.

A Philosophical Point of View

This started out as a simple sketch which was going to get a simple color job. But then it started to look good, and then it started to look really good. So I thought I would give it a proper color job. But then it came out way good and I thought, “Uh oh, this defiantly needs a background.” And so here we are now with the final.

This image would have been done MUCH sooner if I hadn’t taken so many breaks on it. In between school, work and gaming, I slowly completed this from pencil and digital color. It was indeed a huge practice to put together the background, I hope to get better over time.

I named this image “A Philosophical Point of View” because I like philosophy, and you should too!! The girl in the image is thinking deeply about life and the great unknown.

Art Portraits: The last art assignment

So this was essentially the last art piece I will be doing in art class this semester. There were others done but this one stood out the most. It was done in about 40mins on 18′ by 24′ paper with vine charcoal and my camera did a pretty shitty job at capturing the image.

I’m still debating if I should take art 3. It’s basically just figure drawing. It’s the level of drawing which high school kids expect to be doing when they take a collage art 1 class.(nudity that is)

PC Virus: 2009 Edition!!

I just recovered(hopefully) from a massive snow ball of events that started with a shitty virus. The problem only lasted about 24 hours but it has been placed on my list of one of the BIG infections. The reason I say this is because I spent over 100 dollars to fix this little problem. It also stressed me to the point of pure anger. I was ready to go off on the next person who said my name funny.

Long story short, I fixed it. I knew this was inevitable because I’m smart like that, and if I gave up that would mean completely reformatting my HD. Which also means losing ALL of my past original photoshop images.( I should really back this stuff up XD)

Word of advice, be careful where you surf. You never know what piece of unwanted program could install itself on your pc.

No, I don’t think you understand, BE FUCKING CAREFUL OR IT WILL BE HELLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I’m withholding my judgment purely because this is how A-kon picks their winners, and it’s as simple as that. The winner won and the losers lost.

The one thing I do hope is that I at least got in 4th, 3rd or 2nd place. This would show that I’m moving in a proper direction to catch their attention.
